A Guide to Understanding Your Digital Proof

A Guide to Understanding Your Digital Proof
May 23, 2023

When it comes to understanding your digital proof, there are a few things you need to know.  This handy guide will provide you with the information that you need to thoroughly examine your design for discrepancies. Here’s what you’ll be looking at on your full color digital custom lapel pin proof:

  1. The palette/color chart. Your lapel pins colors are described as Pantone Matching System Solid Coated colors. It is a universally accepted coloring system so you can better understand the color selection offline. Computer screens are calibrated differently from user to user so there may be differences on how you perceive a color. Find out more about the Pantone coloring at http://www.pantone.com
  2. Artwork filed as. It is a reference name located on the bottom left hand side of your digital proof. This name, when given to your sales representative, would allow them to quickly assist you in regards to your design.
  3. The sizing grid. This grid on the bottom right hand side of your digital proof gives you a sense of size of your lapel pin. Please note though do not base size off how large it appears on your monitor. Your monitor’s resolution would not display the product at true size. Please print the proof out instead (in landscape) to get a better representation.
  4. The design itself. When looking at your design you will see the metal portions of your lapel pin designated by a gradient of color of gold, silver, copper or black. The metal has this gradient to help distinguish the plating from the regular colors of the coin. You may also notice a textured metallic area on some pin design which will be labeled as “sandblasted” in your color chart. This look represents the lower areas of the pin that are media/sandblasted which helps give the pin some contrast between raised and lower areas.
